Dima Hohlov was born and raised in Riga, Latvia, where he earned a degree in Psychology before moving to New York and discovering photography at the Fashion Institute of Technology. He began his career assisting David Sims, before going on to spend three years as lighting director to Steven Meisel. After a decade in New York, Dima relocated to London, where he began his own photography career.

Dima's photography draws on an old masters approach to light and composition — painterly, atmospheric, and dramatic, with images built more like paintings than snapshots. There's a cinematic quality to the work: staged stillness, deliberate shadow, and a sense of narrative tension held within a single frame rather than movement across it. Strong silhouettes and low camera angles give the images a commanding, monumental presence, while a rich, considered use of colour and light recalls the chiaroscuro of classical painting as much as it does contemporary fashion photography.

Dima shoots editorial for Vogue China, Vogue Russia, Vogue Arabia, Harper's Bazaar Germany, Numéro Paris, Wallpaper, Elle UK, Interview US, Condé Nast Traveller among others. His commercial clients range from high-end lingerie brands to couture houses to sports brands.
